The long-awaited reveal is here. Twelve acclaimed designers created House Beautiful’s Whole Home in Atlanta, Georgia, with each tackling the design of a different area of the home. We partnered with designer Ashley Gilbreath to transform the outdoor kitchen and patio into a resort-worthy escape. We have followed Gilbreath’s journey of mapping out the space and selecting the perfect products, and now we are thrilled see the unveiling of the final design. We asked Gilbreath to walk through all the elements of the grand reveal.
Frontgate (FG): What was your inspiration/theme for creating this space?
Ashley Gilbreath (AG): The grounds of the showhouse are absolutely stunning and the house itself is beautiful! My goal for the outdoor spaces was to complement the surroundings and create a gracious outdoor living space ideal for a casual family supper or entertaining.
FG: Are there any design elements you needed to approach differently with this being an outdoor space?
AG: My number one priority when designing any outdoor space is always durability. Creating a space that is not only beautiful but one that will stand up to the elements is essential.
FG: Explain your experience designing this space while being surrounded by so many other talented designers?
AG: It was so much fun to work alongside other talented designers and to learn from one another. I leave each showhouse feeling inspired and having made a new group of special friends.
FG: What was your favorite part of this design?
AG: I loved collaborating with the Frontgate team and the amazing House Beautiful and Ladisic Fine Homes’ team to pull off our space!
FG: How did you achieve making each area of this design feel cohesive, yet also its own separate entity?
AG: The outdoor living space was very spacious, so to tie everything together, I used a black-and-white color palette with teak elements as a common thread throughout.
FG: What was your vision for the lounge space?
AG: Creating a comfortable seating area with good flow for conversation and visibility of the pool and surrounding area so parents can relax while still keeping an eye on the littles running around!
FG: How did Frontgate’s products help you achieve your vision?
AG: I was so impressed by the range of products offered by Frontgate. From the outdoor kitchen cabinetry to a fun outdoor pool table, Frontgate has it all!
FG: What was your vision for the kitchen/dining space?
AG: Creating a functional and beautiful outdoor kitchen! I loved all the outdoor kitchen cabinet options with plenty of drawers and shelving to tuck away grilling tools, trash cans, outdoor dinnerware and other outdoor entertaining essentials. The flexibility to create a configuration tailored to any space really helped achieve this vision. My go-to for outdoor dining spaces is always comfort. Everyone tends to linger a bit longer when dining al fresco, and no one wants an uncomfortable chair breaking up the party.
