Rug Care Made Easy

Area rugs can be a big investment – one you want to make last for years to come. Whether your rug is hand-hooked, tufted, or performance professional cleaning every two to three years is recommended by most experts. In the meantime, we’ve created a simple rundown filled with easy tips and tricks to care for all the rugs in your home. Read on to learn how to keep your rug looking just like new.

Performance

Stain-resistant and power-loomed to retain quality and color for years on end, our Performance rugs can do no wrong. All the elements to make this easy-to-care-for rug last are woven into the construction. All you need to do is vacuum regularly with the rotating brush on and blot any spills that may occur. If your rug needs a deep clean, always take it to a professional.

High-Low

High-low rugs are wonderful for bringing texture and dimension into a space. No matter the construction material of your rug, vacuuming is always recommended. With the varying tuft heights, the rug may need extra attention when vacuuming. Use the hose attachment to suck up any stray dust bunnies or crumbs nestled in the rug’s “valleys.”

Hand-crafted

Woven by the hands of skilled artisans, hand-crafted rugs are often one of a kind and must be treated with care. While specific care will depend on the extact material of your rug, regular vacuuming with the rotating brush turned off and spot-cleaning are essential. Whether your rug is hand-looped, tufted or woven, avoid using cleaners or chemicals, and never be afraid to call a professional if major repairs need to be made.

Natural Texture

Natural texture rugs are any type that is crafted from a natural fiber, like jute, sisal or animal hide. For natural fiber rugs, using a rug pad underneath will help slow down wear and tear. Many boast antimicrobial properties, but it’s important to still blot out any liquids they come in contact with. Vacuum on a low setting without the spin brush or sweep with a broom to keep your rug looking extra fresh. Animal hide rugs should typically be professionally cleaned.

Power-Loomed wool

Wool rugs are some of the most durable around. Vacuum regularly on a high setting and have a professional cleaning every two to three years to keep your rug looking just like new. If you happen to spill, gently spot clean the stain, taking care to not rub too hard in order to maintain the wool’s polished look.

Shag

Shag rugs can be made from a number of different materials, and their unique pile is typically characterized by long fibers. While the care will vary slightly depending on material, never use the rotating brush when vacuuming a shag rug. Because dirt and dust can get in the crevices, shaking your rugs out (somewhere outside) can help keep them fresh as well. While it may cost a bit more than a regular rug, professional cleaning is always recommended.
